Lifestyle diseases are different from other diseases because they are potentially preventable. Lifestyle diseases are caused by unhealthy living, by a poor diet, by lack of exercise and by habits such as smoking or drinking alcohol. A list of lifestyle diseases includes obesity, back pain, osteoporosis, arteriosclerosis, heart disease, stroke, some types of cancer, diabetes, liver cirrhosis, etc.
It can be lowered with changes in thinking pattern, diet, daily routine, exercise, habits, environment and rest.
The term covers a long list of ailments and medical conditions which are often caused by lifestyle factors. These problems affect older people because of the fact that lifestyle factors need time to damage the body. They don’t cause problems from one day to another, but they slowly and gradually affect the body in an irreparable manner.
The modern man has an unhealthy diet and consumes a lot of meat, dairy products and sugars. If this wouldn’t have been enough, a sedentary lifestyle also contributes to the problems. All these factors contribute to an increase incidence of obesity and certain types of cancer.
